Socialist Horizon Statement Against Repression

Socialist Horizon condemns the US Department of Justice and FBI’s increased targeting of activists protesting injustices being carried out by the US government against immigrants and the liberation of Palestine. 

The current repressive escalation demonstrates US capitalists’ growing authoritarianism and fascist aspirations as they put their profit driven system over the needs of working people both at home and abroad. In doing the bidding of the capitalist class, the US government has scapegoated immigrants for the economic ills of capitalism and carried out a campaign of ICE enforced terror on immigrant communities. While in the Middle East, to further entrench itself against imperialist rivals and maintain control of the region’s resources, the US government with its partner, Israel, carries out a genocide against the Palestinian people. 

Both of these actions have proven to not only be incredibly unpopular with the vast majority of people, but more importantly have been resisted. People in cities and neighborhoods across the country turned out in mass to defend their immigrant neighbors and co-workers in the face of ICE occupations and terror tactics, including the murder of activists, forcing ICE to withdraw. After decades of struggle, public opinion has turned against continued US support and complicity in Israel’s brutal occupation of Palestine. This is due in large measure to the resilience of the Palestinian people who remain strong and inspire people to carry out actions in defense of Palestine. 

Faced with these setbacks, the US government has moved to repress those involved in anti-ICE and Palestinian liberation activism by disrupting organizing and sending a message of fear among the growing number of people looking to fight back. We see this in the cases of the Prairieland Defendants, the Minneapolis 15, the Michigan 8, and members of Centro CSO, among others, where the US government is using its injustice system to label fighters for immigrant rights and Palestinian liberation as “domestic terrorists” and impose long and harsh prison sentences. This follows national and state governments’ earlier attacks on the free speech rights of people advocating for immigrants, Palestine, socialism, and against the racism and sexism of Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA.   

Socialist Horizon calls on all individuals, organizations, and unions to come to the defense of all those under attack by the federal and state governments. The old slogan, “An injury to one is an injury to all” remains true and more important than ever as capitalists in their mad drive for profit bring about increased misery for working people at home, war abroad, and environmental destruction everywhere. 

Only through the broadest possible campaigns in defense of the most elemental democratic rights can we free those undergoing state repression and build the type of anti-capitalist party necessary to end the tyranny of the billionaires and build a just and equal society for all.
